Actress-singer Erzsi Kissworked for approximately ten years with outstanding Hungarian director-filmmaker András Jeles. Their collaboration generated the characteristic „kiss erzsi language”, a ’meaningless’ type of vocal lyrics, permeated by feelings and free associations, so unique and typical of the band. Kiss Erzsi’s encounter with theatre has turned out to be a determinative one: this is when she started to collect ideas, tunes, and composed her first polyphonic songs.
Kiss Erzsi Music, the band, does not imitate real traditional world music itself, still influences from Africa to Alaska, from the Arab world to the blues may easily be spotted in the songs. This experience has become a long one for Kiss Erzsi, who ended up creating her own band. Not only an outstanding singer, capable of anything with her voice, but an incomparable stage presence as well, Erzsi’s versatility takes up influences from folkish to drum’n’bass, through dark balladistic tales up to the world of sunny French melodies, or even to the Seventies’ rock feel. „A unique, virtual world music”.
The band was founded in 1996 by Kiss Erzsi and guitarist Csaba Hajnóczy. The compositions were, in the beginning, mostly vocal themes, but instrumental ideas are now equally predominant in the band’s repertoire, along with a capella tunes. In its classical sense, it is not THE LANGUAGE, or rather not just the langugage that conveys the message. Playfulness, musical ideas and humour get higher emphasis than usual. ’Joyful music’ is the term to associate with this ’virtual world music’ – a mixture of free associations, lots of momentary choices, feelings, dance grooves, rtythms. Kiss Erzsi Music has inspired a number of films and ballet shows. The band has played at clubs, events, the biggest Hungarian and foreign festivals.
Kiss Erzsi Music has released four albums so far („Egy Kiss Erzsi Zene”1998, „Deladela”, 2001 „Röné álma” 2004, Kinono 2006).. As of autumn 2007 Kornél Mogyoró replaced the drummer, Hunor G.Szabó and Máté Hámori replaced the guitarrist, Márton Sütő.
